William D. Whitlock, Jr. or Dave as he is known by friends, has been a mechanic for most of his life.  Working as a mechanic’s apprentice at a textile mill in 1976 convinced him to attend college to become a mechanical engineer.  Seven years later he graduated from Southern Technical Institute (now Kennesaw State University) in 1983. Since then he has worked for several engineering firms in Atlanta including Cape & Company and Newcomb & Boyd.  He spent five years as a facility engineer at the Savannah River National Laboratory near Aiken, South Carolina.  He is one of a very few engineers who can work side by side with mechanics in the field.

Over the years, he has also worked with the design build firms Facility Engineering, Inc., O’Neal, Inc. and The Austin Company.   Here Mr. Whitlock learned the benefit of working directly with mechanical contractors.  This experience proved to him that working as a team with the owner, architect and contractor was the best method to have a successful project.  At the construction kick-off meeting he often reminds the team that they must work together, never make assumptions and communicate.

Mr. Whitlock has been married for 37 years and raised three fine boys.   He has been successfully operating Whitlock Engineering Services, LLC since September, 2011.  He enjoys working on old cars, camping with his wife and scuba diving.
